Maximizing Your Insurance Benefits
As a Board Certified Dermatologist, Dr. Esti Gumpertz is a participating provider for most insurance plans. Due to the vast number of plans, it is not possible for our office to be familiar with the details of each and every patient’s insurance coverage. We encourage you to contact your insurance company before each office visit to determine whether Dr. Gumpertz is a participating provider for your individual plan.
The following insurance companies have websites where you can get information regarding your specific policy and benefits. (Click on the name to be redirected to the company's website)
Referrals:
Some insurance plans need a referral to see a specialist. Before you set up an appointment to see us, determine whether a referral is needed from your primary care doctor. If a referral is needed, contact your designated primary care physician to get the referral. Make sure the referral has been made before you come to our office for your visit. Some plans will pay a higher benefit amount to the patient has a referral. For example, the insurance may cover 100% of the allowed amount for some plans, as opposed to the usual 80%. Some plans will not cover any services without the referral, leaving the patient fully responsible for the cost of treatment!
Co-Pays, Co-Insurance and Deductibles:
Even though your insurance company may have agreed to our fee, it probably still requires you to pay a co-pay, co-insurance and/or deductible amounts. These usually include part of the billed services (co-insurance), and amounts that must be paid out-of-pocket before your insurance is required to pay any amount to us (co-pay and deductibles). Under your health insurance plan you may be required to pay a co-pay at the time you come to see Dr. Gumpertz. Before coming to your appointment, determine whether you have a co-payment due at the time of services. Some insurance plans require different co-pay amounts to be paid to different types of doctor. We will add a $5.00 surcharge where a required co-pay is not paid in full at time of service. To avoid incurring extra billing fees, remember to pay your co-pay at time you see Dr. Gumpertz.
Keep Us Informed of Changes:
Insurance companies and the benefits they offer frequently change. They may merge with other insurance companies, or they may add or drop various providers from their plans without notifying their members. Regular communication with your insurance company is strongly recommended. Above all, keep us informed of your current insurance carrier! While we will file insurance claims on your behalf, if the plan we have on file for you denies coverage, you are ultimately responsible for the charges!
Missed Appointments, Re-billing and Co-pay Fees
Familiarity with your individual insurance plan will help you maximize your insurance benefits. But remember: insurance will not cover the cost of missed appointments or re-billing and co-pay fees.
Try to give our office as much notice as possible if you are unable to keep your appointment.
